Queensland Lung Surgery Quality Index 2005-2014

The Lung Surgery Quality Index report describes sixteen indicators within the five quality dimensions of effective, efficient, safe, accessible and equitable

This report provides analysis of lung cancer processes of care and outcomes of surgical management and comparison of all Queensland hospitals by public and private hospitals and AIHW peer groups.

Key findings for persons receiving major resection for lung cancer: length of stay is similar between public and private hospitals but there is marked variation in surgical waiting times between public and private hospitals, with 84% of patients receiving surgery within 45 days of diagnosis in the private sector compared with 57% in the public sector.

Variation in outcome for surgical mortality and 1 & 2 year surgical survival exists when compared between AIHW hospital groups but compares favourably with international standards.
