The Queensland Cancer Register (QCR) is a population-based register that collects, manages and analyses cancer-related data for Queenslanders with cancer since 1982. To ensure the QCR remains clinically relevant, amendments to the Public Health Act 2005 (Qld) were passed in 2022 and came into full effect from 3 May 2025. These changes introduce all public and private diagnostic imaging facilities in Queensland as new notifiers and significantly expand reporting duties for existing notifiers.
The amendments enable better information capture to support clinical care, health planning, research, and treatment strategies. This marks a landmark shift in cancer data collection in Australia, with Queensland now positioned as a national and global leader in cancer data innovation. Our ultimate goal is to improve patient outcomes by aligning cancer data with modern care practices.
